Yes, I thought this. His books are full of references to being black, too - which of course, is only 50% of the story. The other 50% is that he is also part white!

I wonder if mothers who are focused on the black ethnicity, instead of the white, take it as a given that the white culture or heritage is already a part of the child's life when they're in London and doesn't need teaching. British History, for example, is taught in schools - to some extent. But maybe they feel there's an absence of exposure to the heritage of the other race, which needs more effort or adjustments to provide that balance.

I don't really know. I have guinea pigs who are both black and white, and know the heritage of nothing, so I am just surmising! 😄
