What Kind of Weirdness is This? Who Puts Brackets in Their Headings?

Except I didnā€™t. My workā€™s been edited, and Iā€™m torn. Should I delete those brackets (below)? I did delete them, then reinstated them when I realised the editors had made my story their featured story at the top of the page! Thatā€™s really nice!

I didnā€™t want to be disrespectful, or ungrateful for being the featured story, so I lived with the brackets for a week before changing them and hoping no one notices!

But at what point does some strange idiosyncrasy, which I imagine comes from a grammar app, overstep the mark? Iā€™ve got to say, I think brackets in headings are a bit odd.

Now I mightā€™ve dropped into the editorā€™s messages and asked, ā€˜how important are those brackets to you?ā€™ But there are bigger things to worry about. So hereā€™s my storyā€¦
