We're in the same situation in the UK and immigrants help rebalance the aging population. But there's no denying that when tens of thousands of Africans migrate across the channel to the UK and adopt a western lifestyle, they have the same impact as everyone else who lives here. BUT maybe that number is a drop in the ocean compared to those who stay put.

It's the western lifestyle that needs to change. But parts of Asia are pretty bad too. The more development, the worse we are. It annoys me when people blame China but continue to buy all the crap made in China. Because it's the outsourced manufacturing from the west that's the problem.

There are calls from some quarters to allow asylum seekers to work here too. I can see how it could make sense, if only to fill shortfalls in certain sectors.
