Well, if everyone is playing by the same rules, it's a bit weird for people to be upset. They can repost some of their old stories too, rather than feel aggrieved.

As you know, sometimes we spend ages on a really good article that does absolutely nothing in terms of earnings. So it makes sense that once everyone's forgotten it ever existed, we can give it a second airing, if it's still topical. If it does badly the second time, it's probably not a good fit for Medium.

And of course, for new writers who have no followers, and whose stories are often underappreciated for that reason, it's a wonderful opportunity to give something a second chance later.

Thanks for letting me know this is contentious though. That's interesting.
