We can choose to use as little energy as possible, to support green energy companies (although ours went bust!) and to not buy bottled water. Not everything is essential. And we put a jumper on instead of the heating. If we eradicate demand, the suppliers will have to change their supply to renewable energy or go bust. The consumers have some power, but the transition to greener energy sources is not easy.
I don't think it matters who came up with the term - we still have choices - jumper or thermostat.
They are simply supplying demand. If demand reduces so much that their traditional model of supplying fossil fuels goes out of business, that’s great. They will have to move to wind turbines instead. I believe that’s what some of them are doing already. We need to stop demanding dirty energy. And some of that requires government intervention, because it’s built into our way of life.
