Very interesting. I agreed to be an executor to my parents' estate, but have had second thoughts about it, since I suspect my sisters and I will disagree and it's easier just to let them do what they want. And if you're doing that, to opt out and leave them to it. Interesting to know that executors get compensated. That makes it a little more attractive, but I still think it sounds like a big headache, especially when you're splitting responsibility 3 ways. But then, would I be expected to 'help out' with these duties anyway, and do the donkey work without compensation if I'm not named as an executor? Possibly.
