This was something I felt right from the beginning. As someone who usually gets paid by magazines who want to publish my articles, the whole idea of submitting them for free was distasteful. And then they had the audacity to reject them and insist on rewrites! What? I didn't really understand them at the beginning, and I thought they should be pleased to be offered my work. When they weren't I was a bit insulted, to be honest. But I quickly realised that they might help me with visibility when I had no followers.
