This came through clearly for me. I don't think you needed to add more detail. I think it was clear that you were surprised, but pleased that you didn't know, so you didn't worry about meeting the cost of those outgoings at the time. Because you wanted her to have what she wanted to have. I think it was fine. Some of the comments are probably from people who never even read it. Especially that one you quoted.
