They bullied me into having a new merina coil fitted too. That may have exacerbated my problems, and when I wanted to have it removed because of the fungal infection, they argued so hard that it was a small dose of hormones and wouldn't affect the problem. They told me to go to another hospital, where they made everything 100x worse.
I wanted to give up on contraceptive drugs before getting the infection, but they threatened me with the return of crippling periods etc, so I caved in and let them fit a new coil.
Trouble is, I couldn't have it removed without their assistance, so you're always open to their manipulation and I was always inclined to think they were the experts. Until they made me chronically ill and I decided, no more.
My own GP eventually removed the coil, and told me it was my body, my choice. I didn't get painful periods. My diet had changed all that. They were just scaremongering.
