There are other theories, but I think the point is that anything that happened in the past didn't happen as quickly as what is happening now. We're speeding it up and that's a problem. I don't mind having a conversation about it Barry! I think the problem is, she cares deeply and feels other people don't.
Incidentally if the world stopped using fossil fuels it would continue to warm for another 40 years because of the existing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. So we can't just stop the warming. We can stop the burning, but not the warming. Whether this means we are too late to save the planet as we know it remains to be seen.
There is one other thing - if the existing carbon (and probably methane, too) can be removed, then we probably can stop the warming. But the technology isn't there yet to do that. And warming is speeding up because of the ice caps melting and permafrost releasing methane. It's not looking good. I can understand anyone who is in a panic.
