The crazy thing about Medium is it's unpredictability. My best stories haven't done well. Some of my 'content', if you prefer to call it that, has done better than the in-depth, quality, writing. That's what makes it so hard to decide to only publish stuff that meets curation guidelines because that's not always the stuff that readers want to read. Sometimes an opinion goes wild! Saying that, I am getting a better sense of what does well, just from spending more time writing here.

I do think writing something new everyday is too exhausting. I have hundreds of articles that I wrote for magazines, which I can publish on here if I still hold the rights. That helps keep the momentum going, but those stories don't earn a lot most of the time - even when they're curated!

I didn't realise you didn't have a day job already. My comment about the HMRC trading allowance was on the assumption that you'd already used your personal allowance from employment. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy your new job. I wouldn't want to do this in addition to a full-time employment either. The flexibility of freelancing means I can dip in when I want, but my evening is still my own. That's important.
