The counter has two sides and he was standing on the customer side when he grabbed the scanner and rang up an error. I have no idea why they thought he'd get behind the counter, but the lady already had an issue with me because of the hair, and because I'd attended a doctor's appointment in work time. I couldn't get an appointment outside of work time but had inflammation around my eyes, which needed attention. It wasn't great timing, but I don't think I did anything unreasonable.
The made up story about the guy getting behind the counter was just an excuse. I did write 'guy messing about' on the error slip, which probably didn't help my case, but she could have thrown that away and written 'price check'. I'd written down the truth. I was a naïve 17 year old who thought telling the truth was the right thing to do. I have learned since then. People don't want the truth.
