That's very sweet of you. I don't know. I don't think she knew enough about me at that stage to be jealous, but I do think our previous relationship had gone toxic and wasn't good for either of us. She'd done well for herself since, and so had I. So perhaps trying to reconnect was a mistake from the start. You're spot on about the reality of a best friend though. Nice in principle, but it's so demanding and who has the time! Or the energy to be available on demand.
