That's good advice. Yes, I did try opening a publication called Britain and Ireland. I did invite other writers because it wasn't getting any traction. But it didn't increase reads on my own stories. I eventually concluded that no one cares about the sorts of stories I was publishing. They were nice stories about places I'd been, etc, and Medium doesn't really thrive on 'nice'. I've started to write stuff that does better on Medium, rather than republishing things I did for magazines.

Personally, I do read from publications though, and tend to think they might help gain a few extra readers, especially those interested in a niche, but you're right, a lot of people aren't interested.

Someone's even argued with me this morning because I agreed with you in the comments about the people who buy stuff making the rich rich - but it's not just about their personal wealth - it's all the carbon going into manufacturing the shit that people buy.
