That makes a lot of sense. I feel like if I don't send to a publication, I'm missing out on views, but I'm not sure. There's something very nice about being in control of the timing.

I pulled this story from NWW yesterday because they'd had it all day and hadn't published. I wanted something out that day.

Of course, sods law, once I'd pulled it, I was able to see that they'd scheduled it for 8.20 but no one had mentioned that. I resubmitted it but that had obviously cocked everything up. It didn't get published at 8.20.

So I withdrew again at 9pm and published myself, then sent it to another publication that takes self-published material.

This is one reason why people just do it themselves!
