Sometimes comments are counted as stories, so depending on your definition of a 'story', figures could be swayed in many directions. And also the bot clean up, or spam clean up, or whatever you want to call it has presumably slashed published 'stories' including comments. So, I don't know, it's possible discrepancies could be tied up in definitions and/or bot activity.
