Someone on Twitter was arguing that sugar was an important nutrient when the sugar tax on drinks was coming in. And the alarming thing is that her tweet went viral.... with most people agreeing. A lot of people think it's essential. It's even on the government's nutrition plate! They'll argue this point while arguing that sugar is an essential nutrient. I know why it's on the government's nutrition plate - and it's not because it's essential. It's because the plate is realistic - in the sense that it recognises people do eat this shit, but it should be a small amount relative to everything else.
