Reading your piece did make me wonder if I should sign up to Google alerts. I just got so wound up by this Nigerian site who wouldn't take my work down. It's really made me stop and think about what I put up on Medium. Especially when what does well on Medium isn't the same as what does well in magazines.

If I have something that might sell to a magazine, I won't put it on Medium. Once someone steals it, you have no control. You can't take it down , wait for it to disappear, and offer it to a magazine. Because once it's been stolen and republished, it won't disappear. And no one wants previously published work.
