No, I don't think they're saying stop reading to maintain good will. Just that the more we read, the less each read is worth. But it's still worth something. You might find if you focus on photography, you get more readers who are not prolific readers, so their reads are worth more.

I believe the key message is that we might do better if we focus on a niche.
