My mum's been clearing out her house recently, planning to downsize. I think she also has in mind that she doesn't want to leave a lot of clutter for us to deal with. My mother-in-law though, has spent 99 years hoarding everything. She'll pass on soon, I suspect and that'll be a nightmare. Your parents sound like they were so well organised and it's nice that you can feel grateful.
