Mum used to describe me as a square peg in a round hole. I did the proper job thing for years, but honestly, I am so much happier being a writer for low pay. We are doing OK. It helps that I had a regular income for the mortgage, but my husband earns well. I'm so pleased that these days I can do what I want, and it's not all about other people's expectations or money.
