Microsoft and other software companies' switch from selling disks containing the latest edition, to selling online downloads, which you pay for monthly and are updated on an ongoing basis is part of this. You don't pay once and it's over. You pay every month forever. I refuse. I used XP until it died recently. Now I use Open Office. I will not subscribe to anything. But people do! And they don't object. No wonder people have no money. We should be screaming and refusing to play ball.
