I've thought this too. Not so much that they're selfish, but why not let someone else take over, if they're willing. You've got a bunch of poor sods trying to start publications with one follower (themselves) begging for writers, and huge publications dead in the water. Some don't even leave a note on the home page to tell you they're dead. It's a shame.
