I've heard other people say that - the Europeans work harder and one employer wouldn't employ British people because he thought they were all lazy. That's a tough thing to be labelled with because you were born here, but I agree that some people have an attitude problem, and I think the welfare state makes it too easy for some people to be lazy.

It’s actually interesting that you say they found excuses not to work, because I’m the opposite when I’m on an hourly rate. I find it makes me feel under a lot of pressure to make every second productive. I feel like I’m not pulling my weight if I take a minute to collect my thoughts!
