I've grumbled about earning really badly on stories that I hoped would do well. I've also shared my delight at earning decent sums on shortform stories that I didn't expect to do anything!
I am a professional writer. I am full-time and it's really hard trying to get enough work in, which is why I'm here. I'd hoped to be able to move some hours away from pitching magazine articles to writing whatever I want on Medium. It's not working as well as I'd hoped. Does that make me entitled? I don't think so. I expect a lot of people have high hopes and are disappointed that the platform pays a tiny fraction of the minimum wage to most of us.
But I also see that this place has potential. I've stopped posting so many of my best pre-published articles on here, because they sink. I've started writing for Medium instead, on topics like Medium, which do well. We'll see how it goes. I like to think that when my following grows, some folk will like my longform pieces too.
