It's just as well I'm not in the habit of flying. I prefer people not to invade my space, but I can understand if someone is struggling. My issue would in fact be that I need the front sea for my gammy knee, so I can stop a flare up. I'd expect them to consider that.

So on a flight, I'd probably be the problem. If I got that seat but was sat next to a fat person, I'd still be grateful.
