It's ended up being a bit of a hybrid between social media and a blogging platform. If they wanted to ditch the social side they could stop people following authors, and focus on topics instead.
Anyway, you're right. The money isn't in the social media side. It was certainly a revelation when I came over in 2021, to find the social dynamics seemed to be important in determining whether anything got read. I'd intended to post quality stories, go away, and watch the money roll in. It wasn't that simple. No one knew I existed.
But I'll keep posting periodically when I feel a burning desire to post something. I have a suspicion the money side is gone for me. I never could get readers to find my best pieces. I mean, it's worth a try, but a long shot.
If you don't have many regular readers, then somehow interested people are finding yours. That's good - suggests circulation might be better in tech. I don't know. Interested people tend not to find my best pieces unless they get boosted.
