I'm prone to telling the truth, how I see it. People do get offended sometimes. Maybe the truth needs toning down! This is probably why most people lie more than I do. It's to save face, to save relationships, and to not offend people.

However, why your friend couldn't just say she had a prior arrangement is a mystery. Maybe she perked up? Social media and influencers who lie I think are probably just after your money, or your reads. They want you to think they are doing better than they are, so you continue to support them.
