If a phrase is in common usage, there's an exemption. They cannot claim to own the rights to phrases in common usage. Life goes on is in common use. I've never heard of the song, actually. But I take your point. There must be occasions when lyrics do reflect common usage. I suppose if it's clearly relating to the song, the music company make take issue with it. My guess is they might lose that fight, but I'm no lawyer.
