I was saving for a house at 17, absolutely making myself miserable because it seemed utterly hopeless. I knew I couldn't afford anything else if I wanted a place to live, so everything else had to go. I was the opposite extreme, and probably even more unhappy than this lottery winner. Fortunately, my perseverance paid off, but I do wish I'd given myself a break.
