I was going to say, delighted to find another Brit! But I am saddened to hear your experience of the NHS and it's not been unlike my experience. In mine they just dismiss things rather than deal with things. I'm surprised your mum didn't know to avoid potato, but then again my mother in law is diabetic and loves potatoes, and the diabetes nurses suggest she has sweet potatoes but they don't tell her to avoid white potatoes altogether. So they don't seem to think avoiding them is a good idea. I've studied nutrition and think it's a good idea, but no one listens to me. I hope your mum is OK now.
