I understand, but the article was a strong one and to change almost the whole thing in italics makes it very difficult to read. If that was a requirement in the pub rules, they should have said so, and I would have removed it from the publication. It's not in the guidelines.
If it's all about readers, they should be interested in ensuring a piece is legible too!
Respect works two ways.
I won't offer them an interview piece again, or if I do, I'll have a chat about this first. I can't be having the whole thing turned into italics. It's ridiculous.
If someone deleted attribution, as long as they'd assured me it was their own shot, and I had every reason to believe them, I'm not that bothered. What bothers me is that we are not breaching copyright. Asking them to attribute shots is my way of asking them who owns the copyright and getting them to declare it. If I had doubts, I could eject it from the publication.
And so could this editor eject mine, if she felt that strongly that she wanted it all in italics.
Frankly, anyone who thinks it is in the interests of readers to have the whole thing in italics has lost their mind.
