I think you can probably find a kettle for a fiver if you look around, but yes, it won't make much of a dent. In fact, there's a chap down the road with a modern kettle in the pile of 'free stuff' on his drive.
I was wondering if we should unplug the smart box that serves as a freeview box and recording device to the TV, but the problem is, it takes 5 minutes to boot up every time you switch it on (if it's unplugged), and sometimes, it needs to be on to record stuff. But I have pondered unplugging it when we're away and catching up on what we would have recorded through iplayer.
So for now, I've turned the water heating down to 20 minutes twice a day instead of 30. :-)
