I think with books, if you're buying second hand ones, they can go on the merry go round and if you decide you want to read one again, you get another second hand copy. And I suppose that could apply to anything that you can buy back second hand if you change your mind. I do have a lot of books.... but as you say, I'm also aware there are a lot in circulation - so many in fact, that a lot get pulped because charity shops can't sell them. I'd rather mine were on the shelf than pulped, but if I definitely don't want to read it again, then yes, a charity shop will have a good go at finding it a new home.

I have to confess to also going a little mad when the local charity shop started flogging DVDs for 25p! But to be fair, I think they were on their way to landfill because no one wants them anymore, and we're still enjoying them for as long as the DVD players are available and continue to work.
