I think using tags to their best advantage can help too. Apparently lots of people search on tags these days. And writing something controversial might get reads up... but it might not. I've rehomed all the stories from my publication now. It was too much hassle, and interestingly, rehoming some has garnered a few extra reads, that I don't think I'd have got if I'd left them self-published.
