I think this is the problem. It's not that your subscribers haven't read it. It's that the entire article is sent to their email, so the read is not registered. I never look at the stats. They're meaningless. But you're right - because the system is basically nothing more than an email delivery service, there are no comments or feedback. I prefer medium.
