I think the idea of the Kew one at Wakehurst, is not so much for the end of the world, as survival of the individual plant species if they get wiped out. Because lots of things are facing extinction. We can replant. If things are so bad that the bulk of life on earth gets wiped out, I suspect the seedbanks might not survive either.
