I think she misunderstood the royalty free thing and the fact that the photographer also thought he could give her permission shows a whole new level of misunderstanding. I wonder if he never read the contract.

Unless she got it off a Getty customer's site, and then you might think the question of permission might come up. 😄

But yes, the closing statement about needing to credit, does show a continued lack of understanding.
