I think it's a perception of trying to game the system for reciprocal reading. There's an element of you read me and I'll read you, on Medium. But Barry really wasn't like that. I was useless at keeping up and if he was only here for the read back, he'd have given up on me long ago! But he did read a lot, so it might have looked that way, if there was some reciprocity going on. But we all do it to some extent. It's the only way to get noticed. A brilliant article rarely sells itself.
