I started writing mostly nutrition stories for magazines, and expanded into caravanning stories when I found an opportunity there. It worked for me, but I didn't do any of what you did.... totally different sector. And I approached them with ideas, not writing samples. Glad you managed to get back into your old job. Perhaps it wasn't the right time for you.
