I have a woman waiting for me to be ready to write her story. I've had some stressful stuff going on and just said, I can't do it until this is over. I want to give her 100% and I can't right now. She deserves more than a distracted writer. So, I've put her off. She was OK. Sometimes it's necessary. You could always go and buy a book. Sounds like you made the right call for you. :)
