I hadn't really thought about campsites, but you're right. I can't say I've noticed much diversity on campsites - we have a touring caravan. It might be a cultural thing that all that wet, cold, damp doesn't appeal, which I can quite understand! There was an aging hippy on a campsite in the Cotswolds who was quite memorable.

I love that your colleague could see the fun in your Solihull remark. Even among white British, I do notice that we're all keen to know where everyone's from. When you have a group of people from the same town, sometimes they like to know in which part of town you're from! And if you meet someone from your road - they like to know which one is your house! Yes - the one with the guinea pigs and the gargoyles. I suppose it all helps people connect the dots.
