I don't think it's a bad salary, but then I'm used to shit salaries and I know how to make my money go a long way. A lot of writing jobs I see are in the 20-something range, but then you'd expect qualified journalists to earn more. Saying that, £45k seems pretty good to me! I've never even been close to that kind of money.
