I did an MBA and got a management job with a better salary, but honestly, it only lasted 18 months. I had staff who were disrespectful and I didn't know how to deal with them.

I remember one of my subordinates simply refusing to come to work, because there'd been some snow and the roads were congested (not impassable - just more effort required to get in).

It wouldn't have mattered so much if she worked from home, but she said her partner was on the computer, so she couldn't do much work.

I hated being a manager. But eventually, having finally climbed the salary scale, I reckoned, if I'm going to have to take a crap admin job and be capped at 20k, I might as well do something I enjoy. So I did. Writing.
