I completely agree. I should have withdrawn it. I was new and overly compliant.

You're right too. I have since given some thought to what a challenging job it is, because while I'm used to being treated very differently by my magazine editors, I appreciate that these publications are not dealing with experienced journalists. They have all sorts of different people to deal with - with very diverse writing and language skills (or lack of).

So I suppose compliance with software sets a level playing field for everyone... but doesn't work well for me! I'm doing more with the smaller publications now, and am more inclined to withdraw an article if it suits me. Thank you for your comments.
