I can understand you wanting control over the controversial pieces. When you spend ages perfecting what you want to say and how you want to say it, it's not up to someone else to start fiddling. I just leave a note to either publish or reject. Don't fiddle. I agree about the big pubs. The level of engagement seems to be more important than follower numbers.
