Hmm. Interesting theory. Perhaps I should stop waiting for the bottom of a big crash then. 😬 Currently got a lot tied into fixed 1-3 year bonds. I wonder if down the line, I'll wish I'd invested it instead. Time will tell. I've tended to avoid investing because of the impending recession and expecting big falls again.
Our property investment has been a total headache. Tenants trashed the house. The income doesn't cover the costs of maintenance, management and legal obligations. Just give notice of a 50% increase and frankly, if they move out, I won't be sorry. We'll just sell. I suspect they'll stay as they still won't find anything better value in the same area.
Stupid effing agent lied to us about the property rental values for years. We have finally reached a point where it is costing us money for them to live there. And the house is trashed. It's not our fault that they ignored their obligations to look after it. We keep paying for contractors, and the tenants keep wrecking everything.
Makes a no-hassle bond look quite attractive as a comparative investment. All while interest rates were low, we felt grateful to be getting any return at all.
