Hi Stephen, I don't know about a decent income, because getting enough work is always a challenge, but if you have a niche where you can offer expertise, that's a good place to start. Journals and specialist publications in niches are easier to get into than general interest titles.

I've got a number of books on freelance writing that might give you some ideas... you can even borrow them for free on Kindle Unlimited if you sign up for a free trial.

I'm no expert on making money on photography. I just do a bit of stock photography, but it's not a big part of my income. I think weddings can be lucrative, but it's high pressure! You might find the 'freelance photographer's market handbook' useful though, if you want to get into that area.
