Have you tried just telling him you're the head of the household and asking to be his primary contact in such matters? It's just an old-fashioned assumption. But men mostly do earn more than women, so not that unusual. I let my husband get on with paying bills and stuff because he had a house before me and he just did it. We file our returns separately, and have each had financial correspondence from time to time.
