Gosh, that sounds horrible. I wouldn't want to go inside a place like that. In the UK, we're at 1 in 65. We have random sampling take place for weekly estimates of the numbers in the community. It's odd if they don't have something similar in the US to keep track of how bad things are. I suppose hospital numbers will eventually wake people up if things get really bad.
